The battle with dry hair

Posted on July 8, 2014 at 12:45 AM

With the advanced technology happening in hair care, it has become easier to win the battle over dry hair. Dry, brittle hair is the #1 hair concern among women, but there are ways to fight it!  How often you are shampooing and conditioning, the water temperature, hair and heat protectants, blow drying, proper combing and more are all factors!

Here are some of the most sure-fire ways to beat the dry hair battle:

Shampooing:

When choosing a shampoo, make sure it is for hydrating and nourishing. How often you are shampooing is also key. Shampooing too often can dry your hair out from scalp to ends. Depending on the texture of the hair and the level of dryness being experienced, chances are you need to put more time in between shampooing, Some individuals go every other day, some go a week. Finding what works for your hair is most important!

Dont like the idea of not shampooing everyday? Most people say they prefer day 2 or day 3 hair. You should  consider other styles that will give your hair a break. Top knots, chignons, braids, etc. Have fun with your hair!  When you do shampoo, keep in mind that cleansing your scalp is where your focus should be when shampooing.

Conditioning:

Always follow up with a good conditioner or even a deep conditioning mask. Conditioner shoudl be applied mostly to your ends.. When you have time, leave your conditioner on for a few extra minutes.

You should also know that the temperature of the water plays a role too. Having it too hot is not a good choice for your hair or skin. A cooler rinse closes your hairs cuticle giving it a more smooth finish.

Protectants:

Never go without protecting your hair! Ask your stylist what protectant is right for your hair and lifestyle.
